Our Birth Story: Lessons for Helping Our Patients Prepare for Delivery

We share our birth story and the lessons learned for how we work with our patients as they prepare for delivery.

Clay's birth was pretty incredible. It was just five hours from start of contractions until he arrived, with just two spent at the hospital. Very different than what we were expecting!

And it caused us to re-evaluate a lot of how we teach patients to prepare for delivery and how we - as a pelvic rehab profession - can better help our pregnant patients.

A few lessons that we took away from this experience, and how we'll be doing things differently at PelvicSanity in the future as we help our patients prepare:

  • Helping them find the right facility/provider - Do you know the different options pregnant people in your area have when it comes to delivery? We can guide our patients to the best option for them, whether it's a specific provider, a certain type of delivery or a practice.

  • Assess their level of support - Do they have support from a doula? A fantastic midwife or OB? Or do they need you to help fill in those gaps and prepare them for the birth process?

  • Prepare for all eventualities - While we can help them find the 'optimal' pushing position and teach techniques, we also need to be helping patients realize there's going to be a lot that is out of their control. We can help prepare them for all eventualities so they feel confident and ready, no matter what happens.

Thank you so much for all the support, comments, reviews and DMs we've gotten as we've shared our own personal journey.

As Nicole said on the full 'sode of the topic...

"It was a long, three-year road for us to hold Clay in our arms, and we're so thankful the birth experience was incredible and a fitting climax to our birth story - thank you all for your support!" - Nicole Cozean
